Getting older and raver

This blog has been going 11 years now. Sure I took some breaks here and there, but music is still magical to me. I've produced quite a lot in the last few years with Sped and TDAWGKORG. And it's the best music I've ever made. But those were hard years at work and home. The Days of Wine and Flower.

I'm in a new home in a new city now, and all that is done or put on hold. I don't know if I'll ever create another sped track, though I really wish I had good new ones to listen to. TDAWGKORG will live on one way or another. We'll try the live jamming once I install a new rug here in this work room, so the equipment does not scratch the hardwood floors. Have some friends over to jam.

Mor Sped

I love my new genre I call sped.  It's the finest music I've ever listened to.

Should be enjoyed with headphones only. I'm serious. This is intense music.

And I call it... Sped.

I created a new music genre. Sped. It's fast music for fast times. One of my odder musical experiments. Thank you, Ableton Live, thank you! I absolutely love listening to these late at night, baked and ready for enlightenment. This music is not for everyone though. The super-fast BPM phases with your mind and cancels out the external world. So amazing, I love sped.  It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but some of you are bound to enjoy it.

Some Pet Shop Boys Stuff

A couple Pet Shop Boys tracks I've re-edited and mini-mixed from the new album, Electric.  One of their best in years!

Just so we understand the purpose of this blog...

While I have a deep and abiding love of many forms of music...

I've never understood or enjoyed:  the Grateful Dead, Miles Davis or the Dave Matthews Group.

While pondering that, listen to these!

Moby has a Kiki

Recent Moby remixes.... however... too much Moby alone with himself is not a good thing... so he invited some friends and had a Kiki. I really like this mix.

Lots and Lots of Tracks

I'm going to speed up the process a bit... if you like the same kind of dance-house-club-techno-rave-trance-bluegrass-80s-british metal-don't forget the psytrance... that I like... then you will probably enjoy these mini-mixes!

Chemical_Brothers_Mix_Medley_(KFB).mp3

some less experienced chemical classics.

Depeche_Mode_Medley_Mix2_(KFB).mp3

if you really like depeche mode, you'll probably like this.

Erasure_Medley_(KFB).mp3

if you really like erasure, you'll really like this.

Girls_Aloud_Mix_Medley_(KFB).mp3

I loves me my girls aloud, unknown in the usa, but one of my top 10 favorite groups!  I swear to God.  "something kinda ooh", "biology", "untouchable" and others are immortal classics of modern top 40 sugary dance pop!   This is my extended mix homage to the medleys, mixes and b-sides.

Fuck

featuring the todd, the cozart,  and a cat.  An original KFB classic - circa 1995 - contains my second favorite sample of all time (from my own answering machine).

Justin_Strauss_More_(KFB).mp3

not exactly a household name, more of a household sound. love his basslines.

Justin_Strauss2_(KFB).mp3

you gotta right-click these to download, btw.

Justin_Strauss3_(KFB).mp3

...and if you want even more justin strauss... personally, I never tire of this late-eighties phat dance/club/house sound.  well, that's not true...  but you know what I mean.

Kurt_Favorites_Vol_I.2_(KFB).mp3

yep, 80s classics I used to spin all the time.

Love_Dis_Appointed_(KFB).mp3

this and the following are identical except for the final track.

Love_Dis_Think_(KFB).mp3

the lead singer for information society is also named kurt.  he emailed me a couple times when I worked at tower.

ooga-booga-pt1-remaster.mp3

from the legendary sacramento party.

ooga-booga-pt2-remaster.mp3

I got these from Peter Fable, and felt they needed remastering.  ah, so much better!

Retox_the_Google_Party_(KFB).mp3

variations on a remix.

Retox_the_Poor_Synrise_(KFB).mp3

I like the titles.

Retox_the_Poor_XYZ_(KFB).mp3

and the opening is pretty nice.

Sexpress_in_My_Snake_Eyes_(KFB).wav

Nice tracks from s'express start this super mix.

shout-kfb-edit.mp3

an oldie but a goodie. works well at weddings.

Speculative_Devices_for_Boys_(KFB).mp3

no, I'm not gay.

Spock_Amino_Inception_(KFB).mp3

good, good stuff from the vcmg era.

better mix than you might think from the title alone.

Harmony Commandment one and two

The ubiquitous (for me) "Great Commandment" mix by the great Justin Strauss makes an appearance.  It is my favorite bass line of all time.  Yes, of all the thousands, maybe tens of thousands of bass lines I have ever heard, it is my very favorite!  Don't ask me to explain why!  Sounds great in the car when it kicks in.  Although Daft Punk's "End of Line" from Tron is a new contender.  The Baby Ford track was at his 16th minute of fame?  The Ford Trax album was a classic, but his "Children of the Revolution" cover is my favorite track from him.

Harmony_Commandment_2_(KFB)

Love Dis!

Same mixes except for the final track.  Both start with "Love Comes Quickly" (Dub Mix) by the Pet Shop Boys, move into "Beat Dis" by Bomb The Bass (an early 80s club track that deserves far more respect), and then ending: "Disappointed" by Electronic or "Think" by Information Society.  I'm also including a Kurt's Favorites mix, it was done around the same time and shares many tracks.  Some of my favorite mixes.

-Retox the Geek in Me-

AC/DC fans will love the first two minutes and hate the rest... well, hopefully not!  Caution: may contain some naughty NSFW words, such as Oliver $' brilliant "Doin' Ya Thang", which asks the timeless question, "Are y'all motherfuckers having a good time?"

End -Line -Bass- Line-!

Some trony wordy petty shoppy ends with a bittersweet treat.  Hans Fuson always liked it when I mixed the Pet Shop Boys with The Bloodhound Gang.

Acieeeeeeeeeeed!!!

I've been slacking on this blog, so I'll make it up to y'all with 18 minutes of the finest, purest acid house... this is also the 12" used by my world famous dj cat in his youtube video.

btw, I purposely left in the sound of the needle hitting the record at the beginning, because, dammit... I miss that sound sometimes!

Treat Me Like a Blog

Here is the Depeche Mode track I've been promising...

The original version is 9:38. My edit comes in at 6:01. Much more accommodating, I think. And it gets us to the doo wop end of the track sooner, one of my fav bits of DM.

Blastmaster Breaks Medley!

I bought this 2-disc vinyl compilation when it was originally released, and recently made a medley of most of the tracks in pro tools. No mixin', no scratchin'... just editin'...

I also sprinkled some of my favorite samples on top... south park, sherlock holmes, american idol, willy wonka, even my yoga teacher makes an appearance.

You can find all the original tracks here (excellent blog!)

My Favorite Song of All Time!

I heard this one time only on a college radio station 20 years ago, and finally found it on the internet 6 months ago. God bless the internet.

My First Mashup!

It's Earth Day, so I have to put the Depeche Mode track on hold again and find something more suitable. I started fooling around with Ableton Live, and my first mash-up has a very appropriate South Park sample. Enjoy!

Towelie Makes An Appearance!!!

I was about to post a Depeche Mode track, when I remembered what day it is! So, I pushed my short-term memory to the limit, recalling any and all pot related songs or samples in my possession. And it was soon obvious... I had to quit bogarting this one particular track and share it with the world.

These are really the first two tracks of a longer mix I put together, and it is memorable (to me) for the opening sample, my favorite sample OF ALL TIME. And it comes from one of my favorite tv shows OF ALL TIME. I won't tell you what it is, I'll only give you a clue, but if you ever come across it (on A&E sometimes), the visuals are as excellent as the audio. (And no, it's not South Park, even though Towelie is one of my favorite fictional characters OF ALL TIME.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu9W3JTXYwA&feature=youtu.be#t=6m50s

The other tracks are the Razormaid mixes of an Information Society Medley and Microchip League's New York New York. Towelie makes a brief appearance at the end. Enjoy, dude.

Just a Squirrel Trying To Get A Nut...!

...to move you butt! So everybody dance now!

When I was a wee young dj, I was subbed for a friend (good ole Chris Cook) at a new club. During my two hour set, only one person appeared, mainly because a hot, new club had opened a block away. Disheartening, but I remember this girl really danced her ass off! Never talked to me and barely made eye contact that I recall, but she just danced like no one was watching (even though I certainly was). So that made it worthwhile. This was one of the tracks she danced to.

My favorite band

A major surprise is that it has taken me four posts before mentioning my favorite band, the Pet Shop Boys. My love of their music is legendary, and it is a love that spans decades, more than half my life. It is strange that I can be gushing like a giddy girl about such things, but fuckit, I love the Pet Shop Boys!

There are few PSB tracks I've felt the need to edit... but this b-side from the Minimal single had an atrocious mid-section, and much too brief ending. So I fixed it for them.

Without Love, Where Would You Be Now?!

One of my favorite secret weapons, I first heard this track played in the early 90s by long-time DJ friend Chris Cook of SF. The original version is 9:22 and I chopped out about 4:00 of instrumental in the middle to get straight to the meat of the track, the Doobie Brothers!

I love the opening, I love the message and I love everything else about this track. Enjoy.

It Has To Be Funky!

Everyone loves the original Funkytown, but I am rather fond of the 80s cover by Pseudo Echo as well. Rousing, high energy, slick production, and some nice techno on the 12". As usual, I used the 12" mix as the basis for my re-edit, and I'm very pleased with this one. Enjoy.

On This, The Occasion of My 1st Post!

I'll offer the track that changed my life. When I first heard it, I transformed in 8 minutes from angst-ridden teenage metal-head to dance/electronica aficionado.
